The Silence
A walk in the woods can be an aesthetic experience, a chance to unwind and re-set. Here, the walker is experiencing something more ethereal. The trees are providing a gateway towards transformation, a connection beyond language, as they shepherd the walker along their path of change.
Wool, roving wool and synthetic materials.
Framed. The piece is floating in the frame, hung with filament.
35 x 48.75" or 89 x 123.5 cm. Measured from the outside of the frame.

The Ariel wall hanging series is based on photos I have taken of the earth from a plane. From this vantage, we see the wonder of rivers and mountains, squares of agriculture and coastal lines. The human footprint is also made clear, with urban centres and patterns of light scarring the land. From above, one gets a keen sense of the irregularity of the earth's surface, reflected in my deeply textured weaving. Metallics and unusual materials are employed to keep these pieces firmly in the realm of modernism.
Aerial Series
Aerial-Urban
This wall hanging is an image of a city at night. The glow of the highway and structures below, still active as the rest of the world sleeps. The golden light lies in stark contrast to the darkness of the natural world.
In order to fully illustrate city lights, I wove tiny LED's into the density of the city. The golden threads reflect the light, creating a soft glow. Above is the wall hanging in daylight with the lights on.

Aerial-Tundra
The landscape of the Canadian tundra is varied with rock, low lying plants, ice and snow. I wove this after a photo I took around Labrador. The ice in the centre is woven with reflective wool, which creates a silver gleam in low or angled light, projecting a whole other image with the negative space. The silver band at the bottom grounds the image and echoes the majesty of the Arctic.
